If someone asks me where I'm from, I say Philadelphia. I currently live here, spent the first 8 years of my life in this area, and then had an 8-year "pit stop" in Lancaster before moving on to West Chester for school and now back here to Philly.
I never say that I'm "from" Lancaster because 1) I wasn't born there; 2) I never got attached to the place; and 3) it's not where I spent the bulk of my life.
German's side is that since I spent most of my "upbringing" years in Lancaster, that that is where I am technically "from".
Where you are born? Who cares about that. You don't even remember anything about it and it doesn't have any effect on who you are. I know plenty of people who were born in completely random places while their parents were away and the birth came unexpectedly.
Of course where you went to school shouldn't even be a factor at all. Most people venture as far away as possible from their place of origin just to get a different experience while in college.
Where you end up obviously shouldn't be a factor in deciding where you are from either. In fact just saying where you end up implies the complete opposite of where you are from.
The only thing left, that makes any sense, is where you developed. I would say from the ages of 8 to 18 are the most critical. This is the time when you "find yourself" (hate to say that but i couldn't think of a better word). Physical, emotional, and intellectual development all occur during these years and you are shaped into the person that you ultimately become. Therefore I deem thee a Lancasterian.
I think where your born is where your from. If you say that your from wherever you spend years of your life that could change numerous times in your life time, and what every time you spend 10 years of your life somewhereall of a sudden thats where your from? I don't think so
