Djgump35: Just no, far easier to get rips when its a new roll in a confined space. In addition, my two year old agrees with you and he has enough to play with
First I must say many professional athletes of our time are way to over paid. With the caliber of players on the Yankees and the amount of money they are being paid, why would they want to listen to any average manager trying to tell them what to do. Joe Torre is like a DaVinci statue, old, unique and irreplacable. The players respect this man because he is a legend, one of the greats. Trying to replace him will only cause problems when all of these big shot players must learn to play under the wing of some avereage manager. Let Joe Torre pick the yankkees back up next year and then retire on a high note.
It has been proven that he was successful. What was it 18 years that they had not won a world series before Joe Torre, and over 5 years he won 4. That is greatness. He may not have won any in a while, and that may lead to the Yankees needing another skipper, but it doesn't make him or the team a failure.
I know every year is a failure if it isn't a world series in new york, but look at all of the storied franchises in all of America's sports, and none can match the record of the Yankees. That being said, I am not a fan, or a hater(White Sox and Rockies fan).
If I were a Yankee fan, I think I would root them on to get to the world series, and if they get knocked out, either be happy they surpassed the red sox, or start rooting against the red sox, and be happy when they don't win it all.
He left with the respect of so many, and whether announcing or finding a management job somewhere else, his legend is intact.
