When my sister had a baby she asked me (since I work from home) if I could take care of her daughter everyday when she went back to work. I said that I wasn't sure because I was thinking of getting a part time job in addition to working at home because I have 2 kids of my own and money was really tight. My sister told me that if I took care of her daughter she would pay me 200 $ a month to help me out a bit. So I agreed. In June I started watching her daughter and in July my sister was moving and she didn't have alot of money but I figured starting August she would start paying me. Well now it's almost Nov. and I haven't seen a cent. Last week money was really tight and I asked her if I could borrow 20 $ and she got mad at me for asking and I said well if you were paying me like you said you would I wouldn't be asking for money. She got mad and said that maybe she should just put her daughter in daycare so she doesn't have to inconvenience me. I feel really bad but was I really wrong to say something? |

Your sister steam-rolled you into watching her kid and you let her walk all over you. If you would have either said no at the outset, or asked for payment that first month, you would have been much better off. Your sister sounds like a user jerk and you should tell her to put her kid into daycare. You are not responsible for raising her child. I wouldn't expect any payment for the past months of babysitting, though. Your sister knew how to play you and you let her. The best outcome of this situation is for you to learn your lesson and grow a spine. Don't let anyone use you -- not even your family -- you are not a doormat! |
