THE YULETIDE LOG
Leftwing7`s Argument

I was arguing with my brother about what a "yuletide log" is. According to me, and the hard facts for that matter, a yuletide log is a large log that is burned in the hearth as a part of the celebration of traditional christmas.

Although the term has come to be used to describe variety of cakes (that look like logs) the name has its base in christmas and the burning of a wood log to celebrate.

Look at my evidence for proof!!!!!!!!!

A yuletide log is a dessert not a piece of wood. Even if there was a time when telling someone you were going to make yulteide log meant "lets set a big piece of wood on fire" times have changed. In 2007 if you tell someone you are going to make a yuletide log they would assume you meant you were baking a dessert.

Look at the recipes I found. Makes your mouth water. Might just have to bake a nice ol yultide log this year.

"Traditionally, a huge oak log was carried into the dining hall amid much celebration and lit on Christmas Eve. The log was burnt each night until Epiphany, the feast of Twelfth Night, to symbolize the power of God's Light to conquer darkness. Yule log cakes now symbolize the oak logs."

I think Tom wins.
