ARNOLD PALMER: SOUTHERN DRINK OR NOT?

I see southern food restaurants selling Arnold Palmer drinks, which is a mixture of half iced tea/half lemonade, all over new york and other places I travel to. They alway claim its a southern drink that people in the south drink. I don't see why they would lie about where the drink comes from.

The other day Kris asked me if I would like an Arnold Palmer and I had no idea what he was talking about. He then said, "It's a southern drink, half lemonade and half iced tea." Keep in mind while reading this Kris is from the North. I grew up in the south and my family and friends still live in various parts of North and South Carolina. I called many of them up and asked them if they had ever heard of an Arnold Palmer. None of them had, including my 76 year old grandmother. Southern style places in the NORTH may serve Arnold Palmers, but restaurants in the south (the REAL south) don't. Southerners don't drink Arnold Palmers. They have never even heard of them.
